JSeptember 2018 meeting

We celebrated Christmas with a meal out at the Greyhound Inn at Burston on our
usual meeting night and followed it the next week with our annual Carol Service
at St Saviour’s Church, Aston.  This was
happy event with lots of readings from the Bible and of poems with a Christmas
theme as well as the singing by the congregation of the well-known Christmas
Hymns.  Our thanks go to the
Churchwardens, the Rector, the Organist and to our members Margaret Moss and
Margaret Wilson, who chose the readings and poems.

Our January meeting, on the 9th took the usual format, without an
outside speaker.  We have been caught out
in the past with snowy evenings in January but got away with it this year.  We talked about the Short List of Resolutions
which have been chosen for their potential to become national campaigns.  Our members voted on which subject they would
like to see discussed and, possibly followed up after the national Annual Meeting
in June. We then held an auction of items donated for us to send a contribution
to ACWW (Associated Country Women of the World) which has similar aims to the
WI in educating women and provides practical help for women to earn money to
support their families and bring them out of poverty. We enjoyed looking at
paintings done by our talented members and heard a report of the SFWI Council
Meeting.  It was a full but enjoyable
evening including time for a cup of tea and a catch up with our friends.
